Ironman langkawi

Reached a few days before the race. 3 to be exact. Race week can be quite hectic. There are briefings ,expo, athlete dinners, transition bag drop offs , practice swims, and ideally you want to do a bike route recce and maybe throw in a small run too. It's better to get there a good week before the event. #lesson Race day The atmosphere is electric. The water is inviting. The athletes are rearing to go. Everyone ready to step out of their comfort zone. Swim 3.8km The swim went reasonably well. This being an open water swim navigation is important. Swimming well but in the wrong direction can cost precious time. Keeping that in mind I didn't mind slowing down a bit to correct my direction from time to time. Got caught sometimes between swimmers and had to slow down, stop, lookup, re calibrate. Bring my first ironman it's a bit intimidating to be with so many swimmers and sometimes getting kicked and pushed around. Didn't go off track too much. Ac...

Mumbai Marathon SCMM 2015

Image
Just got done with the Mumbai marathon a few weeks back.(Wrote this in Feb but wanted to put the strava logs etc. finally got to it today!)  This being my first marathon and given my training leading up to it I am very happy with what I was able to achieve. When it comes to sports and this can be applied to to life in general as well - the output is equal to the input. Obviously there are exceptions but this stands for the most part. What you sow is what you shall reap.              My training has been good but not ideal. A bit erratic, haven't been able to put in the hours that I ideally wanted to. I started training from November and ran my first 21km this season at the Pune marathon on Dec 7th in 2:01 which was my personal best as well. My previous best and my first half marathon was at Mumbai 2014 where I barely trained and ran a 2:11 miraculously.. I still don't know how I achieved that by just ru...

Hyderabad triathlon

Image
Going to Hyderabad for the triathlon has become an annual fixture now. Every year we try and take it up a notch. Set new targets, hit new highs, still doing many things "for the first time in our lives".  With each event we are getting stronger, learning new things, making new mistakes & hopefully not repeating them too often. Last year it was the first time I and Gurmoksh Singh were attempting the Olympic distance and Manesh, ishpreet and raksha were attempting the half iron. This year there were 3 of us.   My partner in crime - Manesh Nambiar and the prodigy Shubhankar Bivalkar. All of us has set our eyes on the half iron distance this year. Its  1.9km swim followed by 90km on the bike and a 21km run :) We decided to drive down with the 3 bikes from Pune on Friday evening. And just like that we were on our way! Roads were great till Solapur, but after that it was a nightmare. We had dinner near Solapur and for the first time got a taste of the Sol...

12th Sept, 2014 Manesh my partner in crime and I decided to push ourselves and attempt the 300km ride. Our previous longest ride have been a few 200 BRM's. Pre race This was probably the first time our race prep was near perfect. 2 days before the race I had checked to see what all I needed to buy, made a to do list, downloaded the app and set reminders to make sure I don't forget. The general list is as follows - Bikes Manesh - GT hybrid Rohit - Merida Matts 40 V - Accessories Zip locks CR 2030 battery for the blinker lights Gloves helmet sunglasses - Nutrition Apples, bananas Hydration bladder, dry fruits Few Snicker bars for variety in taste ORS - rehydration salts Peanut Butter sandwitches Our prep has become better as each event has gone on. I guess we are learning from our experiences both good and bad . Flag Off It is probably the best start we ever had. At the very outset we started at a good steady pac...
